Key risks addressed

Gamma

One of the major industrial projects in the United Kingdom
EDF Energy is leading the construction and operation of two EPR reactors at Hinkley Point, in South West England.

CHP units 1 and 2 are the fourth EPR reactor in the world.

The previous ones were Flamanville (France), Taishan (China) and Olkiluoto (Finland).

In order to limit the exposure of personnel to gamma and neutron rays, BAUMERT was selected for the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of approximately 220 radioprotective and fire-resistant doors.

Baumert contributes to this project, which highlights French expertise in EPR thanks to its solid, personalized, compliant and qualified design.
The solution provided by Baumert
2 types of doors are used:
Gamma Gates to protect against gamma rays

Neutron Gates to protect against gamma and neutron rays

Weight: 2 to 17 tons

Thickness: 70 to 650 mm

Baumert managed to adapt its design to the technical specificities of the contract and to take into account the site's constraints on the introduction of doors and installation, given the dependence on the design and the progress of the GC.
